500 Word Summary

Target Audience

The band we have chosen (Feeder) aim for an audience aged 15+. their particular style is indie/rock and they get a rock fanbase and audience; we want to stick with this audience as it would be pointless to change the audience. I will have to analyse different artists of the same genre to find out what they're using in their music videos. Bands like Foo fighters and Artic Monkeys, two bands from the same genre, may use the same themes in their videos and we need to gather some ideas from these.

We will not need to aim at a specific class or socio-economic group but a video that can be enjoyed by all indie fans. we want the themes of the video to target the teenagers and young adults and have content that they would enjoy.

Textual Analysis

Having watched and analyzed our area of production (music videos), it has given us a wider perspective of what is expected of a music video and some of the elements we need to think about including in our video. We need a solid narrative to go by so the video will make sense when incorporated with the music. one thing we must avoid doing is producing a boring or directionless video.

Planning

Inspiration from Current institutions

channel 4, one of the main national TV networks broadcasts it's well know teen soap drama Hollyoaks every evening. the show is of particular interest to me because of the way it is filmed and the camera effects it uses. A lot of the shots and frames they use are based around creating different moods as it is a drama. The time of each shot as well as the frame adds to the mood they are trying to put accross, for they would use a close up of someone's face to put accross their feelings; the music also adds to the mixture to deliver the finished piece.

i want to use some of the ideas featured in the teen drama as the target audience of our video is aged 15+, with a lot of our viewers being in their late teens early twenties this would be worth considering.

AS reflection

last year whilst making our crime/thriller, i found that working in a large group of people we had clashes with filming angles and ideas. personally i found my skills lie in the filming - camera angles and editing being my favourite aspect - and the editing part of producing a piece of media.

During the production of our AS music video, i was in charge of the sound and some editing. due to lack of theoretical knowledge at that early point of the year the end product was quite basic, however the sound and mixing worked well with the video we had produced.

my weakness over was definitely organisation; this was a group problem . personally i think if i had got on top of everything i would have been a lot more productive with the theory and research side of the project.

I feel i am skilled using garageband and final cut however i would like to further develop my editing skills using final cut.

Moving onto A2 i think the biggest change will be the way i organise myself - this will be easier now i am working with only one other person. this will also mean i can get more involved with editing and filming. this also means i will have a bigger input to the research and analytical side of the project.

This year i am aiming for a A overall. i can do this by applying myself and revising before the final exam.
