The Indie Genre

the indie genre has seen a revamp since the turn of the century especially within the last three to four years with many new 'indie' bands emerging and even sparking a cultural indie movement amongst teenagers.

The term which comes from independent record labels now labels a sub genre of alternative music which has become massively popular and has more recently leaked into mainstream music. Most indie labels these days are owned or funded by Major record labels which means decisions within the indie labels are over-ridden by the major.

many alternative and new wave bands make it through the internet or fanbases and later move to a major label; bands doing this become commercialised inevitably because of the high risk involved in signing a smaller band to a massive label. creative flare and artistic value is lost because of them having to stick to a particular style.
